Associate Veterinarian/Medical Director | Donelson Animal Hospital

Nashville, Tennessee, Donelson Animal Hospital is a privately owned, non-profit veterinary hospital seeking an Associate Veterinarian, with optional Medical Director opportunities for those interested in leadership. As the oldest veterinary hospital structurally in the area, the practice has a strong legacy in the community and is now actively working toward modernizing the facility, services, and technology while maintaining the trusted reputation it has built over decades.
Working Hours The hospital is open Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and is closed on weekends. This is a full-time position, with flexibility around scheduling depending on the needs of the incoming veterinarian. The practice plans to continue operating five days per week and there are no after-hours or weekend requirements. The hospital is very open to discussing scheduling preferences to ensure the role works well for the veterinarian. There is a small cottage behind the clinic that can also be offered for the veterinarian to live in, with a corresponding adjustment to compensation if preferred.
Role Description and Responsibilities This role is ideal for an experienced veterinarian who is looking for autonomy and the opportunity to play a meaningful role in the development and growth of a practice. As the sole veterinarian, you will have the freedom to take on as much responsibility as you would like, whether focusing purely on clinical work or becoming more involved in operational and leadership responsibilities. Clinical duties include all aspects of general practice such as surgery, dentistry, wellness care, preventive medicine, routine appointments, and general internal medicine. The hospital is actively seeking a veterinarian who can help modernize the clinic, rebuild its presence in the community, and take advantage of the strong business potential in a busy area. The practice is also very open to veterinarians who have specific professional interests, welcoming the opportunity to expand services or even introduce additional species over time if that aligns with the incoming doctor’s passions and skills. If desired, the veterinarian can take on a more leadership-focused role, contributing to decisions around the day-to-day running of the clinic and future recruitment. However, these additional responsibilities are optional, and the owners are happy to manage them if the veterinarian prefers to remain focused on clinical work.
Practice Details The hospital is well equipped and continues to invest in modern technology. Recent equipment upgrades include a brand-new digital X-ray machine, dental suite, monitoring equipment, a Butterfly ultrasound wand, and a new anesthesia machine. The owners are highly supportive of further investment and are open to purchasing additional equipment or expanding services in line with the veterinarian’s clinical interests. While the hospital is the oldest veterinary facility structurally in the area, there is a clear commitment to modernizing the clinic, including updating equipment, improving workflows, and implementing new computer systems over time. The hospital currently offers a full range of general practice services, including spays and neuters, surgery, dentistry, vaccinations, preventive care, and routine medical care, with plenty of room to grow additional services.
Team The incoming veterinarian will join as the sole DVM, with the goal of rebuilding and expanding a client base that was once very well established in the community. The hospital is supported by a dedicated and growing team that currently includes one full-time kennel technician, 2.5 veterinary assistants, two front desk team members, and a hospital manager who will be joining the team soon. The team is enthusiastic about the hospital’s modernization plans and eager to support a veterinarian who values autonomy and wants to help shape the future direction of the practice.

Troy, Ohio, Community Veterinary Clinic is seeking a veterinarian who's ready to have both a fulfilling career AND a life outside the clinic. We're a family-owned practice North of Dayton, Ohio, and we understand what it means to balance professional passion with family priorities—because many of us are parents too. For over 30 years across 5 locations, we've built a culture where you can excel at veterinary medicine without sacrificing the moments that matter most with your friends and family.
Why Working Parents Thrive Here
We know the juggling act. School drop-offs, pickups, soccer games, parent-teacher conferences, unexpected sick days—these aren't obstacles to us, they're part of life. That's why we've designed our practice to support veterinarians who are also dedicated parents:

Truly Flexible Scheduling : Choose the hours and days that work for YOUR family. Whether you need mornings free for school drop-off, want to be home by 3pm for pickup, or need specific days off for activities—we'll work with you to create a schedule that fits your life.
Part-Time and Customized Full-Time Options : Work 2, 3, or 4 days per week, or design a full-time schedule around your needs. Our doctors typically work 10-40 hours per week, not the burnout-inducing 50-60 you'll find elsewhere.
Predictable Schedules : Know your schedule weeks in advance so you can actually plan family life. No last-minute changes, no surprise on-call shifts.
"Go Home On Time" Philosophy : Our appointment schedules are designed so you actually leave when your shift ends. No staying late means being there for dinner, bedtime, or whatever your family needs.
NO On-Call, NO Emergency Hours : When you leave, you're DONE. No phone ringing at 2am, no emergency clinic rotations, no weekend on-call that ruins family plans.
NO Surgery Required : Focus on medicine and building client relationships without the pressure of surgical caseloads if that's not your preference.
Understanding When Life Happens : Sick kids, school plays, field trips, early dismissals—we get it. Our team supports each other when unexpected family needs arise because we've all been there.
Company Car with Gas and Insurance : One less expense and hassle to worry about—we provide the vehicle, gas, and insurance for work-related travel.

The Practice Environment
You'll have everything you need to practice excellent medicine efficiently. Top-notch equipment, modern facilities, well-organized workflows, and a supportive team mean you can be highly productive during your work hours and truly disconnect when you're with your family.
We maintain high standards of care, but we do it in a way that respects your time and energy. You'll have the autonomy to practice medicine based on each patient's unique needs, with a team of experienced colleagues ready to help when needed.
Compensation & Benefits
We believe great veterinarians deserve great compensation, regardless of whether they work part-time or full-time:

Competitive production-elevated compensation of $200,000+ for full-time, with pro-rated options for part-time schedules
4% company-funded 401(k) Retirement Plan —because your future matters even when you're working flexible hours
Comprehensive benefits : Health, Dental, Vision & Life insurance (available for both full-time and part-time)
Generous Paid Time Off —because you need vacation time with your family
Parental Leave —we support growing families
Flexible scheduling —the cornerstone of everything we offer
Professional development assistance and tuition reimbursement—continuing education that works around your schedule
Paid association dues, licenses, and liability insurance
Employee discount on veterinary care for your own pets
Bonus opportunities

Life in Troy, Ohio—A Great Place to Raise a Family

Is passionate about veterinary medicine but realistic about work-life balance
Brings the efficiency, time management, and multitasking skills that come naturally to working parents
Values meaningful, focused work during work hours so they can be fully present with family during family time

We practice high quality medicine in a home-town atmosphere. We have plenty of support staff with 6 customer service representatives, 6 licensed technicians, 3 technician assistants, a surgery technician, large animal assistant, practice manager, and janitor. We have cultivated a great team and provide the best work/life balance possible in this beautiful area.
Position details include a large, renovated hospital with DaySmart (Vetter) software, digital radiography, digital dental radiography, high speed dental unit, full in house IDEXX lab, oxygen cage, isolation ward, small and large animal ultrasound, company vehicle for large animal work, equine dental equipment, and much more. Opportunities are available to develop your interests – ultrasound, physical therapy, acupuncture, equine, etc.
Watertown, NY is close to the St. Lawrence river, Lake Ontario, the Adirondacks, and we are only 30 minutes from the Canadian border. It is a great area for outdoor sports enthusiasts as year-round recreation abounds. Hunting, fishing, snow sports, water sports, hiking, camping, and the list goes on. Watertown is a small city with a stable economy due to the nearby Army base at Fort Drum. We are also an easy drive to the big cities of Syracuse, Albany, and Rochester.
