Background of the New UAGM Veterinary School in Puerto Rico
The Universidad Ana G. Méndez (UAGM) is excited to announce the establishment of its new veterinary school in Puerto Rico, dedicated to advancing veterinary education, research, and service. Our mission is to provide world-class education and training to future veterinarians, with a focus on innovative teaching methods, cutting-edge research, and community engagement. We are seeking highly motivated and qualified individuals to join our founding faculty and help shape the future of veterinary medicine in Puerto Rico and beyond.
Essential Duties
Develop and deliver high-quality lectures, laboratories, and seminars in your area of expertise (Veterinary Immunology, Virology, Bacteriology, Parasitology, Physiology, and Pathology).
Mentor and advise veterinary students, guiding their academic and professional development.
Collaborate with other faculty members to design and implement an integrated, competency-based curriculum.
Participate in the development of online and hybrid courses as needed.
Contribute to the continuous improvement of the curriculum through active participation in departmental and college-wide committees.
Research and Scholarly Activities
Establish and maintain a productive research program that contributes to the advancement of knowledge in your field.
Seek and secure external funding to support research endeavors.
Publish research findings in reputable, peer-reviewed journals.
Present research at national and international conferences.
Collaborate with colleagues within the institution and across the veterinary and biomedical sciences community.
Engage in interdisciplinary research that aligns with the strategic goals of the UAGM Veterinary School.
Instructional Activities
Deliver lectures, labs, and seminars that are engaging, evidence-based, and aligned with current best practices in veterinary education.
Utilize diverse teaching methodologies to accommodate different learning styles and enhance student engagement.
Develop assessments that accurately measure student learning and provide constructive feedback.
Stay current with advancements in veterinary science and education to ensure the delivery of up-to-date content.
Engage in continuous professional development to enhance teaching effectiveness.
Service
Participate actively in departmental, college, and university service activities, including committee work and student advising.
Contribute to the broader veterinary and biomedical community through service to professional organizations.
Engage in community outreach initiatives that promote the mission and vision of the UAGM Veterinary School.
Serve as a role model and advocate for diversity, equity, and inclusion within the institution and the veterinary profession.
Qualifications
DVM or equivalent degree, and/or PhD in one of the following Veterinary Biomedical Sciences (Veterinary Immunology, Virology, Bacteriology, Parasitology, Physiology,or Pathology).
Demonstrated excellence in teaching and research in your area of expertise.
Strong record of scholarly activity, including publications and successful grant applications.
Commitment to student-centered education and innovative teaching practices.
Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary environment.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Dedication to fostering a diverse and inclusive learning environment.
Desirable Qualities
Experience in curriculum development and innovative teaching methodologies.
Strong leadership and organizational skills.
Ability to engage in interdisciplinary research and collaboration.
Proficiency in Spanish is an asset but not required.
Experience with Blackboard, online or hybrid teaching is a plus.
Work Environment/Physical Demands
Work is primarily performed in an academic setting, including lecture halls, laboratories, and offices.
Involves occasional travel for conferences, research collaborations, and outreach activities.
Requires the ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
Some positions may require handling animals or working in a laboratory environment with biological or chemical hazards.

Typical Work Week
Full-time faculty members are expected to work a standard 40-hour week, with flexibility to accommodate teaching, research, and service obligations.
The work week may include evening and weekend commitments, particularly for research activities or student support.

Ana G. Méndez University (UAGM) is a private, non-profit higher education institution located in Puerto Rico, founded in 1949.
