Just 2 hours’ drive north of Sydney, Newcastle is perched on the coast in the Hunter Valley wine region and has some of Australia’s best surfing beaches. Newcastle is big enough to have everything you need, without the crazy traffic and hustle of a major city. With breweries, distilleries and vineyards, beaches, bays and rivers, there’s lots to love about this coastal gem where we play hard and eat well.
AREC are proud of our values and look for these positive characteristics in all applicants:

Company Overview:
We have a staff of more than 100 experienced, qualified staff who work 24/7 to provide holistic medical care. Our purpose-built facilities are equipped to handle the whole client journey from triage, pathology, imaging, surgery, intensive care, pharmacy and recovery. On average we treat 10,000 pets and their humans each year.
Company History:
In 2004, Dr David Tabrett noticed local vets under pressure from trying to provide medical care for their clients beyond the hours of a general practice clinic. He established the region’s first after-hours emergency animal hospital to provide specialist support to referring vets and pet owners across Newcastle and the Hunter region.
Since opening our doors as Newcastle Animal and Referral Emergency Centre (NAREC) in 2004, and simplifying our name to AREC in 20016, we’ve expanded our services and our premises to occupy the entire building of 4 Lang Rd, Broadmeadow.
Our facility includes a comfortable waiting area, triage and consultation rooms, treatment spaces, isolation bays, a surgical suite/operating theatre, specialised diagnostic imaging, on-site pharmacy, pathology lab and a dedicated staff lounge for our 24/7 o...n-site team.
