Aqueduct Animal Hospital is seeking a fifth veterinarian and future medical director. Our current medical director will be retiring in a couple of years, and we’re seeking the right individual to take his place when the time comes.
Annual compensation: $150,000-$200,000+
Who we are:
Privately owned and operated, Aqueduct Animal Hospital has experienced robust, consistent growth since moving into our brand new 14,250 square-foot facility in Rexford, NY, a hamlet of Clifton Park. We offer a full range of veterinary services, including wellness exams, urgent care, surgery, advanced dentistry, medical care, behavioral care, boarding, and daycare.
At AAH, we only sell one product: a better relationship between the pet owner and their pets. The best way to accomplish this is by providing a safe, inclusive animal hospital that is welcoming, knowledgeable, and honest in all our products and services. Our slogan, “Your Pet’s Other Best Friend, " encompasses these core values.
Why would you want to work here?
The median household income in Rexford is over $138,000. Our clients seek the best care available, and you will be able to practice high-quality medicine.
Our practice owner seeks a collaborative environment where staff concerns are addressed promptly. The current Medical Director will mentor you on the ins and outs of his duties, and you will work closely with the owner to manage staff, work with our practice manager, and develop and implement protocols and SOPs. We have a talented and fun team that readily provides professional, top-notch support so you can focus on practicing your best medicine.
Rexford is a beautiful area in the foothills of the Adirondacks. We are within one hour of Lake George, which is consistently rated as one of America's most beautiful and clean lakes. We are 20 minutes from three metropolitan areas—Albany, Schenectady, and Troy. We are 30 minutes from Saratoga Springs and the Historic Saratoga Racetrack. We are a short drive to the Catskills and Adirondacks, which offer ample outdoor recreation and activities. We are also three hours from Montreal, New York City, and Boston.
Schedule of Implementation of Role as Hospital Director:
Years 0-2:
You will work alongside our current Medical Director, the practice owner, our current Practice Manager, Kennel Manager, and Hospital Manager, learning the ins and outs of the practice operations, roles, financials, and SOPs. The practice owner will help you develop leadership skills to assist you when you take over the position. You will also be a full-time veterinarian who will gradually schedule more time for independent management responsibility. Additional salary will be determined based on production and responsibilities.
Years 2+:
You will receive a generous quarterly bonus for management responsibilities based on revenue generated.
After the current Medical Director’s retirement, you will take over his responsibilities, which include:
Managing training programs and staff development.
Developing and managing daily staffing levels along with our management team.
Assisting management with day-to-day operations, including hiring/firing, running one-on-one meetings with staff, coaching, and leadership development.
Being the right-hand person of the practice owner.
Discussions with the practice owner regarding the future direction of the practice, the scope of our professional services, and how we present ourselves to the community around us.
Implementation of our shared vision of the practice with the owner.
Listening to and addressing staff and management concerns while working with everyone in a fun and collaborative environment.
Working with our consultants and the practice owner on the practice's financial health, staffing levels, wages, benefits, and future financial growth.
We will also start discussions on buy-in potential if desired. If partnership is desired and agreed upon, we will have an independent practice evaluation done and set a clear path for majority ownership with buy-out clauses. This is not a bait and switch or a carrot with nothing at the end of it. There will be a clear path towards partnership and eventual exit strategy from the beginning negotiated between us in writing.
This opportunity is more than just an associate’s position. It’s a future for an individual who will earn substantially more income than just working as a veterinarian and be able to shape the focus and growth of our practice. This position is not right for everyone, and we are seeking a motivated individual who not only wants to take their career and life to the next level, but also has the right personality and is enjoyable to work with.
