Background: Garners Ferry Animal Hospital was founded in 2013 by Dr. J. Brock Hendrix and was developed from the veterinary facility purchase from a 40 year seasoned veterinarian in the Columbia area. It is currently a 2 DVM practice.
Mission: At GFAH, it is our belief that comprehensive preventive care is essential to a companion pet's long, happy and healthy life and our goal is to provide individualized, high quality, companion pet medical and surgical care through professional, affordable and advanced veterinary services.
Hours: We are open Monday through Friday from 8am to 5pm. DVM hours are 8:30am-5pm.
Location and Surrounding Areas: Garners Ferry Animal Hospital is located in South Carolina's capital city, Columbia, which is home to the University of South Carolina as well as a large number of restaurants with local food flare and many boutique shops. Also unique to Columbia are the Columbia Museum of Art, Koger Center for Performing Arts, The Township Auditorium, Colonial Life Arena, the Vista and the Devine District areas— both being some of Columbia’s most vibrant arts, dining, and entertainment districts. GFAH is in close proximity to Fort Jackson Military Base and Shaw Airforce Base as well. Columbia boasts a sunny, warm climate, affordable cost of living with a prime location central to SC. The area offers many public schools as well as private school options as well. We are a short drive to beautiful Lake Murray, Congaree National Forest, and also only 2 hours from beautiful beaches along the coast and 4 hours from the gorgeous mountains of North Carolina.

The Associate DVM will be responsible for medical and surgical care of patients in the exam room and throughout the hospital. This includes maintaining client relationships and effectively communicating the care, needs and condition of their pet. Medical records will be maintained in an accurate and timely manner and estimates will presented to clients in advance of care, as appropriate. The ADVM will be considered an integral member of the team and is therefore responsible for supporting the hospital lead DVM/owner, other ADVMs, Practice Manager and all other support staff.
Skills and Qualifications:
-Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree, or equivalent, from an accredited university.
-Veterinary License and DEA licensure in good standing to practice in the state of South Carolina.
-Commitment to practicing the highest standard of medicine and upholding the veterinary code of ethics.
-Strong interpersonal skills including excellent verbal and written communication, ability to be empathetic and compassionate, and outstanding collaboration with other GFAH team members at all times.
-Solid ability to think rationally and logically; able to make quick, decisive decisions.
