ARE Animal Rescue, a 501(c)(3) non profit organization serving Riverside and Northern San Diego counties, is seeking a Veterinarian to ensure the health and well being of the animals in the Rescue’s care. Do you have a love for animals and a desire to help contribute to the success of an amazing team? We're looking for a team player with excellent communication, organization and technical skills. This position will be responsible for animals within the rescue and foster care, ensuring that care and treatment are of the highest quality and consistent with the policies of ARE Animal Rescue and with the highest standards of current veterinary practice.
Examination, treatment, or referral of animals within our care in accordance with ARE Animal Rescue policy
Work with fosters and rescue management to ensure proper treatment plans and meds are in place to treat sick or injured animals
Provide oversight to ordering inventory and budgeting medical and surgical supplies
Ensure compliance with veterinary medical standards, practices, and procedures
Provide support to management personnel to ensure an effective and positive work environment
Work with Executive Director to create veterinary budget and s, update policies and procedures as needed.
Co-manage the ISO ward
Encourage, recruit, orient/train, and empower volunteers to be an integral part of the program.
Ensure positive adoption experiences for ARE animals and their new owners.
Work with the Director and other individuals as needed to set new procedures, update old procedures, and keep ARE on the cutting edge of low cost-effective treatment
Answer medical emails and phone calls as needed
Maintain accurate and complete medical records, including computer data entry
Diagnosis and treatment of disease
Disease identification and surveillance, including daily rounds
Efficiently stabilize and manage a variety of trauma cases
Manage ongoing cases on a daily and weekly basis
Perform and assist in surgeries that can be performed in house
Perform and manage surgical team for a high volume, low cost Spay and Neuter program.
Doctor of Veterinary Medicine
California Veterinary License
Shelter clinic experience preferred but not required
Strong surgical and diagnostic skills
An open mind and creative brain
Must be able to lift 40 lbs and stand for long periods of time
Interest in and understanding shelter medicine
Good written and oral communication skills
Critical thinking and problem solving skills, able to multi-task and prioritize
Dependable, reliable, and efficient
Basic familiarity with computers, Google platforms

We strive to provide quality care and rehabilitation for animals left behind by owner, placed on euthanasia lists at kill shelters, and others in need in the community. We have a fast paced environment focused on the benefit of the animals vs humans. With over 3,000 lives saved in 2020 we are excited to increase our lifesaving a projected 9,000 animals in 2021.
