The Emergency Veterinarian assesses patients that present with an urgent condition, performs emergency procedures, and monitors their recovery process. The Emergency Veterinarian cares for animals that are suffering the effects of physical trauma, shock, respiratory problems, cardiac problems, neurological issues, or other severe injuries that require immediate and intensive veterinary care.

Maine Veterinary Medical Center (MVMC) is a VECCS level one certified Rarebreed practice, located in Scarborough, Maine. MVMC’s 20,000-sq. ft, state of the art facility, with manicured landscaping, a generous fenced in yard and walking trails won the 2010 Hospital Design People's Choice Award and has been featured in many hospital design advertisements. MVMC has full in-house lab capabilities, a fluoroscopy suite for interventional procedures, a helical 16-slice CT, MRI, digital radiography, in-house telemetric monitoring, ultrasound, advanced surgical procedures, and endoscopy. MVMC employs 3 neurologists, 3 internists, 3 surgeons, 2 oncologists, an ophthalmologist, 3 board-certified criticalists, 2 rehabilitation veterinarians, a board-certified behaviorist, and a great team of emergency clinicians to offer advanced services to a well-educated client base.
Scarborough is located on the coast just outside of Portland. Scarborough offers lovely sandy beaches and the rocky coastline made famous by a local artist, Winslow Homer. Scarborough Public Schools is a top-rated public school district. Portland, the largest city in the state of Maine, is just a few miles away.
