Goals of the Externship: Provide broad exposure to different aspects of equine practice. Externs typically work with a variety of doctors over the course of their visit and gain experience with general practice, surgery, internal medicine, sports medicine, reproduction, dentistry, acupuncture, chiropractic, and a wide range of procedures.
Housing: Free onsite housing is available.
Schedule: Externs typically arrive at 7:30am each morning to help with evaluation of hospitalized patients and attend case rounds at 8:00am. Externs are scheduled with doctors throughout the day and typically finish between 5:00 and 6:00pm. Externs are welcome to help with nighttime emergencies but it is not a requirement.

Travel: Sacramento International Airport is 30 minutes from the clinic.
Area Attractions: We are located halfway between San Francisco and Lake Tahoe in beautiful Northern California.
Current enrollment in veterinary school. First through fourth year veterinary students welcome.
About Loomis Basin Equine Medical Center
Loomis Basin Equine Medical Center is a referral hospital located in Penryn, CA at the base of the Sierra Foothills. The hospital provides referral services for a group of 4 practices with a total of 25-30 veterinarians. The hospital is located on a 25 acre facility that houses between 60-100 horses. Facilities include 2 hospital barns, 2 ICUs, 2 isolation facilities, and an array of covered paddocks and pastures. The hospital has a full surgical suite, MRI, digital radiography, digital ultrasound, and endoscopy. The group of doctors is highly collaborative with a team approach to patient care and client services.
