The Department of Small Animal Clinical Sciences of the Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine invites applications for a full-time, tenure track faculty position in Radiation Oncology. Academic rank is open (Assistant or Associate or Professor) and dependent on qualifications of the candidate. This is a unique and exciting opportunity for the successful candidate to join a multi-disciplinary team in a new Comparative Oncology Research Center (CORC) that will be located within the Virginia Tech’s Health Sciences and Technology (HST) building in Roanoke, VA. This new research facility will be located immediately adjacent to Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine. This center will embrace a true one-health concept using research and application of advanced technology as the nexus between human and veterinary medicine. This center represents a collaboration between the Virginia Tech Carilion Research Institute and the College of Veterinary Medicine. The oncology service will be moved from Veterinary Teaching Hospital in Blacksburg to the Comparative Oncology Research Center in Roanoke to take advantage of this collaboration and build on Virginia Tech’s research strengths in neuro-oncology and oncology. This program will distinguish itself nationally by creating a truly integrative environment for cancer research with a defined niche on cancers of the brain (primary and secondary) and other types of cancers intergrating humans, laboratory animals and companion animals. The successful candidate will join a team of 2 medical oncologists and 3 neurologists. A 3rd medical oncologist and dedicated surgeon are planned with the opening of the new facility. Roanoke is the largest city in Southwest Virginia and is 45 minutes from Virginia Tech’s main campus in Blacksburg. There are regularly scheduled shuttles with WiFi that travel between the Blacksburg and Roanoke campuses. The CORC will be to serve as a premier small animal medical center that provides exceptional, comprehensive and compassionate cancer care. The CORC will contain a new state-of-the-art linear accelerator (Varian TrueBeam) with stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT). Other technologies that will be available include CT, PET/MR, high field strength MR and an adjacent medical cyclotron.
Rank and salary will commensurate with qualifications and experience of the successful candidate.

The primary job responsibility will be to establish a collaborative research program with a focus on clinical research/clinical trials.
It would be expected for the successful candidate to provide crucial input in the establishment and clinical function of the radiation oncology service to the CORC.
Additional service responsibilities include consultations with the Veterinary Teaching Hospital in Blacksburg and outside referring veterinarians, participate in continuing education programs of the College and participate in faculty governance activities.
Teaching responsibilities will include participation in didactic instruction in radiation oncology and related disciplines. Clinical instruction will be directed toward professional students, interns, residents and graduate students from various disciplines.
The applicant must be committed to excellent patient management, client service, and clinical teaching.
Occasional travel required.
Applicants for this faculty position must hold a DVM or equivalent degree, have completed a radiation oncology residency, and have achieved diplomate status or be eligible to sit for board certification examination with the ACVR by position start date.
Candidates with a strong research interest is required. Applicants with advanced degrees and research experience are preferred.
